European Solidarity Corps – Normal – Mental Wellbeing

21 April 2026

“Now we’re going to schools, we have the backing of the European Commission, and we have that stamp and Léargas. It gives that official element that there’s a great organisation behind us and it gives us more confidence in what we’re doing. From being a part of this project, we’ve gotten advice and guidance from different people. It has been a great help.”

Conor, Tiernan and their project partners share a passion to help young people improve their mental wellbeing. As a group of young people from rural Ireland that have all experience mental health difficulties, they felt a duty to do something to make a difference. European Solidarity Corps funding allowed them to take their project ‘Normal – Mental Wellbeing’ to new heights.

They travelled the country speaking to school students, creating safe spaces to talk about mental health, with the hope of changing the national conversation around what is ‘normal’ mental wellbeing.

Solidarity projects like this one allow young people across Europe to make positive changes in their communities. Hear about Conor speak about his experience with the European Solidarity Corps as part of our Seen and Heard festival in 2024.
