Erasmus+VET: Galway Technical Institute

Galway Technical Institute (GTI) is a centre of Further Education and an Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training (VET) Accredited organisation. GTI has put international learning at the core of the organisation, having sent more than 1,500 individuals on Erasmus+ VET mobilities.

Since 2008, learners from across subject areas – from Business and Law to Nursing and Emergency Care – have taken part in placements in countries ranging from Finland to Malta. Last year, GTI reached a new milestone in their Erasmus+ journey by sending students on their first long‑term mobilities.

GTI is also building its international links by welcoming visiting experts from Finland and Turkey. These visits bring new ideas and specialist skills that benefit both staff and learners.

The impact is clear: stronger transversal and vocational skills, increased confidence and resilience, language development and cultural awareness, and, for learners, self-assurance in their pathways to future careers.

As GTI Deputy Principal John McLoughlin put it; Erasmus+ is now firmly embedded in GTI’s DNA.
