Erasmus+ School Education: Coláiste Iósaef

13 February 2026

“Our students’ and staffs’ mindset has changed to a more sustainable and globally-focused angle.”

Coláiste Iósaef, a secondary school in Limerick, used their Erasmus+ project ‘Towards a Student Driven Sustainable School’ to integrate Global Citizenship Education and sustainability practices into their school. It focused on empowering their students to understand global challenges and take informed action within their communities.

Staff and students visited a partner school in Salzburg, Austria and brought this international perspective home to Limerick. With the confidence and cultural awareness gained from this mobility, teachers and students alike have been empowered to become proactive leaders, advocates for sustainable development, and contributors to positive change within their school and beyond.

Through their Erasmus+ project, the school introduced a Transition Year Climate Literacy Course, expanded the school’s vermicomposting system, and embedded the development of transversal skills, such as collaboration, confidence, and active citizenship, into their school community.
