European Conference “Schools in Times of Transition: Well-Being and Social Cohesion in a Changing Europe”

19-21 March 2027 | Bochum, Germany

Europe is facing a period of profound transformation shaped by geopolitical uncertainty, social change and economic restructuring. The Ruhr region – with its history of industrialization, migration and structural transition – provides a unique setting to reflect on these developments and their implications for education. Schools are increasingly required to respond to complex challenges: they must support students in navigating uncertainty, foster democratic participation, strengthen social cohesion and ensure that no young person is left behind. At the same time, they play a crucial role in promoting well-being, resilience and a sense of belonging.

This conference invites school leaders, teachers, and educational support staff to share their experiences and discuss practical approaches to the challenges they face(d) in their institutions. The event will be organised as a BarCamp, providing a flexible and participant-driven format. The programme will consist of a minimal framework designed to maximise opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and peer learning. Participants will have the chance to explore the topics most relevant to them and exchange ideas on how Erasmus+ and eTwinning can support well-being and social cohesion in schools across a changing Europe.
