Celebrate languages with Léargas

Sun, Sep 25th, 2016

This week is all about languages! Monday 26 September is the European Day of Languages, when we celebrate the diversity of languages spoken around Europe. Watch our video to see the diversity of languages spoken around our office, and share your own plans for the day on Facebook or Twitter using #coeEDL.

On Friday 30 September eight projects and four individuals will receive their European Language Label awards in a special ceremony at Farmleigh, Dublin.  All have done outstanding work in the promotion, teaching and learning of languages in Ireland: there’s a sneak peek at one winner’s story on our blog The Spark to Speak: How Languages Changed My Life.

Meanwhile there’s a chance for schools to enter the annual Juvenes Translatores translation contest. Up to five 17 year old students can register to hone their translation skills and perhaps win a trip to Brussels!  And don’t forget that our European Day of Languages competition, ‘Climate change in…’, is open for entries until 28 October 2016.
