| Strategic priorities | 1) European citizenship Making young people aware that they are European citizens is a priority of the Youth in Action Programme. On this basis, projects should have a strong European dimension and stimulate reflection on the emerging European society and its values.
2) Participation of young people A main priority of the Youth in Action Programme is the participation of young people in democratic life.
3) Cultural Diversity The respect for cultural diversity together with the fight against racism and xenophobia are priorities of the Youth in Action Programme.
4) Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities An important priority for the European Commission is to give young people with fewer opportunities access to the Youth in Action Programme. |
| National priorities | Léargas will support project proposals taking into account one or more of the following priorities:
- participation by Irish groups in Youth Exchanges
- participation by organisations promoting the sending of young people on European Voluntary Service
- applications from those who are new to the Youth in Action Programme
In line with the priorities proposed by the European Commission for 2010 and in the context of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010, Léargas will support project proposals taking into account one or more of the following priorities:
- projects aimed at stimulating young people's reflection on the prevention, ways out of and consequences of poverty
- projects tackling the issue of marginalisation and various forms of discrimination, such as those based on gender, disability or ethnic, religious, linguistic or migrant grounds. In this context, particular attention will be paid in particular to projects promoting the active involvement of:
a) disabled young people, encouraging exchange between young people with and without disabilities, as well as projects focusing on the issue of disability in our society b) young people from migrant backgrounds or ethnic, religious or linguistic minorities.
- projects tackling the issue of youth unemployment and aimed at stimulating young unemployed people's active participation in society
- projects dealing with young people's awareness-raising and mobilization around global challenges, such as sustainable development, climate change, migrations, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
- projects aimed at raising young people's consciousness of their role as active citizens in a globalized world as well as at fostering their sense of global solidarity and commitment
Building awareness of the European Voluntary Service will be a priority in preparation for and during the European Year of Volunteering 2011.
